Suggested Safety Plan for Victims of Domestic Violence
- Always keep some money hidden
- Have extra keys for the car and house
- Have important documents and items readily available:
- Bank Accounts
- Insurance Policies
- Marriage License
- Driver's License
- Birth Certificates (yours and children)
- Social Security Numbers (his, yours, and kids)
- Valuable jewelry
- Have small bag with extra clothing. Have items hidden in one central place – garage, closet in an overnight bag, exercise bag, or whatever is available. Figure out what his pattern of behavior is during the violent stage and determine where the best place would be to have these things available to you, should you need to leave quickly.
- Above all don’t hesitate to call the police
- Notify a neighbor to be alert to strange noises and call the police
- Get rid of weapons in the house especially if he becomes violent
